Earth Day

Gaylord Nelson, the ex-Governor of Winsconsin, facing with waves of students protesting in the streets against the Vietnam War, realised the need to create a nationwide environmental protest. That is how Earth Day was established, to celebrate the planet that has welcomed us and that we do not know how to thank and pay off as we should.

“It is the economy that must adapt to the rules of biodiversity, not the other way around”: these words, which well explain the approach that man should have with our planet, also convinced President Kennedy to promote a round of conferences dedicated to raising American awareness regard environmental protection issues.

In addition to environmental rights, Gaylord Nelson was also a great advocate of civil and human rights.Environmental protection and social protection are two complementary topics: the earth is us, loving our planet means loving ourselves too. An environmentally sustainable world must be synonymous with a socially responsible world, whose true value lies in the uniqueness of the different.
